Kyle MacLachlan set to return to Twin Peaks as FBI agent Dale Cooper

    Kyle MacLachlan has revealed that he will reprise his role as FBI agent Dale Cooper in cult TV series . The actor is the first confirmed casting for the new series which will air in 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of the season finale. Cable channel Showtime made the announcement with a surprise cameo from Kyle at a meeting of the US Television Critics Association. Showtime's president, David Nevins, was speaking to reporters at the event when the actor walked up to him with a cup of coffee. "I think you need a damn good cup of coffee," said the actor, using his character's catchphrase from the show.

    The 55-year-old told reporters that he was "very excited" to be returning to the show, which goes into production early in 2015.     While Showtime have yet to confirm who else will appear in the show, it is believed that a lot of people from the original cast will return. The 1990 cast included Lara Flynn Boyle and Sheryl Lee as Laura Palmer. Showtime president David Nevins told reporters that fans are in for a treat as the show's reporters have "been very specific in promising closure". "From what I've seen – I won't even say what I've seen – this is going to live up to expectations and then some" he added.
